Terms of Service
Last Updated: August 31, 2026
Welcome to Interpreter Readiness Lab (“IRL,” “we,” “us,” or “our”). These Terms of Service govern your access to and use of the Interpreter Readiness Lab website, courses, digital materials, mentoring services, assessments, practice materials, and other products and services.
By accessing our website, creating an account, or purchasing or using an IRL product or service, you agree to these Terms of Service. If you do not agree with these Terms, please do not use our services.
1. About Interpreter Readiness Lab
Interpreter Readiness Lab provides educational resources, practice materials, mentoring, assessments, feedback, and other learning opportunities designed to support ASL-English interpreters, interpreting students, and others developing interpreting-related skills.
IRL is an independent educational business. Unless specifically stated otherwise, IRL is not affiliated with, sponsored by, or endorsed by any certification, credentialing, testing, or governmental organization.
2. Educational Purpose and No Guarantee of Results
IRL products and services are provided for educational and professional-development purposes.
We work hard to create useful, realistic, and high-quality preparation materials, but purchasing or completing an IRL product does not guarantee:
passage of any certification, credentialing, or licensing examination;
achievement of a particular examination score;
certification or credentialing;
employment or advancement; or
any particular professional outcome.
Practice exams, assessments, questions, scenarios, and other preparation materials offered by IRL are created for educational purposes and should not be understood to be actual examination content unless explicitly identified otherwise.
Users are responsible for reviewing the current requirements, policies, and procedures of any certification, credentialing, licensing, or testing organization relevant to them.
3. Accounts and Access
Some IRL products require a user account.
You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of your login information and for activity occurring through your account.
Unless IRL has expressly authorized otherwise, purchases and accounts are intended for use by the individual who purchased them.
You may not share your login credentials or provide another person with access to paid IRL content through your account.
Organizations, schools, interpreter education programs, agencies, or other groups interested in providing access to multiple users should contact IRL regarding appropriate access or licensing options.
4. Purchases, Payments, Refunds, and Cancellations
Prices are displayed at the time of purchase and may change at any time. A price change will not affect a purchase that has already been completed.
You agree to provide accurate and current billing and account information when making a purchase. Payments may be processed through third-party payment providers. IRL does not directly store complete credit card information when payment information is handled by those providers.
Digital Products and Courses
Because IRL's courses, practice materials, assessments, videos, and other digital products provide access to proprietary educational content, purchases are generally non-refundable once the product has been accessed, started, or downloaded.
If you purchase a product but have not yet accessed, started, or downloaded it, you may request a refund by contacting us.
Products or assessments that have already been completed or submitted for evaluation are non-refundable.
Assessments and Individualized Feedback
Some IRL products include individualized assessment, scoring, or feedback.
You may request cancellation and a refund before submitting your work for evaluation, provided the associated product or assessment has not otherwise been accessed or completed.
Once you have submitted a video, audio recording, assessment, or other materials for individualized review, the service is considered to have begun and the purchase is non-refundable.
Mentoring and Scheduled Services
Mentoring and other scheduled appointments may be cancelled or rescheduled with at least 24 hours' notice.
If you cancel at least 24 hours before your scheduled appointment, you may choose to reschedule your appointment or request a refund.
Cancellations made less than 24 hours before the scheduled appointment and missed appointments are generally non-refundable.
If IRL or your mentor must cancel an appointment and we cannot provide the scheduled service, you may choose to reschedule or receive a full refund.
Technical Problems and Incorrect Charges
If you experience difficulty accessing a product, please contact us so we can attempt to resolve the issue. A technical problem does not automatically qualify for a refund if we are able to restore or provide access to the purchased product.
If an IRL-related technical issue prevents us from providing the product or service you purchased and we are unable to reasonably resolve the problem, we will provide an appropriate replacement, credit, or refund.
Verified duplicate or incorrect charges will be corrected and, when appropriate, refunded.
Exceptional Circumstances
We recognize that unexpected circumstances happen. IRL may consider refund, credit, or rescheduling requests outside of these terms on a case-by-case basis.
Any exception we make does not change these Terms or require us to make the same exception in the future.
Nothing in these Terms limits any refund, cancellation, or other rights you may have under applicable law.
Approved refunds will be returned to the original payment method when reasonably possible. Processing times may vary depending on the payment provider.
5. Intellectual Property and Use of IRL Materials
Unless otherwise stated, all IRL content is owned by or licensed to Interpreter Readiness Lab and is protected by applicable copyright and intellectual property laws.
This includes, but is not limited to:
videos and audio recordings;
course lessons and instructional materials;
practice exams and assessment questions;
TEP practice materials;
sight translation materials;
interpreting and transliteration practice materials;
scripts and scenarios;
downloadable resources;
graphics and written content;
feedback and instructional resources; and
other materials provided through IRL.
Purchasing an IRL product gives you a limited, personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable right to use that product for your own educational purposes.
Purchasing access does not transfer ownership of the materials to you.
Without written permission from IRL, you may not copy, reproduce, record, screenshot for distribution, republish, upload, sell, resell, distribute, publicly display, teach from, create derivative commercial materials from, or otherwise provide IRL materials to another person or organization.
You may not upload IRL materials, assessment questions, videos, scripts, downloads, or other proprietary content to artificial intelligence systems, shared repositories, study-resource websites, social media groups, or other third-party platforms for reproduction, distribution, analysis, or creation of substantially similar materials.
Personal notes created while using IRL materials are, of course, yours.
6. Mock Exams, Assessments, and Feedback
IRL may offer mock examinations, assessments, scoring, mentoring, individualized feedback, or other evaluation services.
Any score, rating, evaluation, or feedback provided by IRL represents an educational assessment based on the materials and criteria used by IRL. It should not be interpreted as an official score or as a prediction or guarantee of performance on a certification or credentialing examination.
IRL feedback is intended to help users identify strengths, areas for growth, and possible next steps in skill development.
7. Mentoring and Appointments
IRL may offer individual or group mentoring, coaching, feedback sessions, or other scheduled services.
Appointment availability, scheduling, rescheduling, cancellation, late-arrival, and refund requirements may vary by service and will be communicated when the service is purchased or scheduled.
Mentoring is educational and professional-development support. It does not constitute legal, medical, mental-health, financial, or other licensed professional advice.
8. Acceptable Use
You agree not to use IRL's website, products, or services to:
violate any applicable law;
infringe upon another person's intellectual property or privacy rights;
share, distribute, or resell IRL materials without permission;
allow unauthorized users to access your account;
interfere with the security or operation of the website;
attempt to gain unauthorized access to another user's account;
introduce viruses, malicious code, or other harmful technology; or
engage in fraudulent, abusive, threatening, or harassing behavior toward IRL staff, mentors, contributors, or other users.
9. User Submissions
Some IRL services may allow you to submit videos, audio recordings, written work, questions, or other materials for assessment, mentoring, or feedback.
You retain ownership of your original submitted content.
By submitting materials, you give IRL permission to access, review, store, and use those materials as reasonably necessary to provide the service you requested.
Submitting materials for feedback does not automatically give IRL permission to publicly share your work, name, image, likeness, or testimonial for marketing purposes. We will obtain separate permission when appropriate before using identifiable customer submissions for promotional purposes.
Information regarding how personal information and submitted materials are handled is addressed further in our Privacy Policy.
10. Third-Party Services and Links
IRL uses third-party platforms and services to operate portions of our business, which may include course hosting, payment processing, email communication, video hosting, scheduling, and other services.
Those third parties may have their own terms and privacy practices.
Our website may also contain links to third-party websites or resources. IRL is not responsible for the content, availability, policies, products, or services of websites we do not control.
11. Availability and Changes to Services
We may occasionally update, modify, replace, or discontinue products, features, or services.
We may also temporarily restrict access when necessary for maintenance, security, technical issues, or circumstances outside our reasonable control.
When practical, we will make reasonable efforts to avoid disrupting access to purchased products.
12. Suspension or Termination of Access
IRL may suspend or terminate a user's access to our services when we reasonably believe the user has violated these Terms, including unauthorized account sharing, copying or distributing IRL materials, fraudulent activity, harassment, or other misuse of our services.
Termination for violation of these Terms does not automatically entitle the user to a refund.
13. Disclaimer and Limitation of Liability
IRL makes reasonable efforts to provide accurate, useful, and reliable educational materials. However, educational information, certification requirements, testing procedures, and professional standards may change over time.
Our services are provided on an “as available” basis, and we cannot guarantee that the website or services will always operate without interruption or error.
To the fullest extent permitted by applicable law, Interpreter Readiness Lab and its owners, employees, contractors, mentors, and contributors will not be liable for indirect, incidental, special, or consequential losses arising from the use of IRL products or services.
Nothing in these Terms excludes rights or protections that cannot legally be excluded under applicable law.
14. Privacy
Your use of IRL services is also subject to our Privacy Policy, which explains how we collect, use, and protect personal information.
15. Changes to These Terms
We may update these Terms of Service from time to time to reflect changes to our services, business practices, or legal requirements.
The most current version will be posted on our website with the date it was last updated.
Your continued use of IRL services after updated Terms become effective constitutes acceptance of the updated Terms.
16. Governing Law
These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Michigan, without regard to conflict-of-law principles.
